Catch the Great Migration in the Masai Mara
Witnessing the Great Migration is one of the ultimate safari experiences. The migration crosses the Mara River from Serengeti into the Masai Mara from the end of July until October each year.
When the herds of wildebeest and zebra attempt to cross the Mara River is one of the highlights of an East African safari. The herds must brave the strong current of the river as well as evade the huge Nile crocodiles which live in the river. They gather in large numbers and attempt to work up the courage to breach the waters. Many of the wildebeest cross successfully, but some do not make it. These intense interactions and moments of high drama make for dramatic photo opportunities.
The herds will spend a few months grazing on the fresh grass of the Mara before heading back across the river into the Serengeti where they spend the rest of the year.
